Vieste is unique to its kind, built on a peninsula formed by two large points and a spectacular alcove which faces the lighthouse oxbow, and which embraces some of the region’s most famous shores - awarded the FEE’s Blue Flag various times - representing a true jewel of Puglia.

The city centre is located on the higher stretch, Punta di San Francesco, while the town’s most modern area is on the second, Punta di S. Croce.

The medieval splendour of the first stretch is solidified in the fascinating Concattredale di Santa Maria Assunta and in the Castello, the first in a typical Roman Puglia style, to which the Baroque bell tower – built later- is a perfect match, and the second one with an impressive dark triangular structure, reinforced by bastions and still today an Army headquarters.

But the place’s most famous monuments are found in the territory’s natural landscapes, such as the mysterious Pizzomunno, a monolith limestone more than 20 metres high on the banks of the beach of the same name, which, through the centuries has given life to various and fascinating legends, and the Architiello, a real arch carved from of the rocky coast - this too being a motive for amazing stories.
